10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Jim Ross
1. Hometown Humiliation
Making their employees look like total chumps in their hometown is a well worn WWE trope. For some reason, Vince McMahon absolutely loves tearing people down in front of their own people, and JR is no stranger to this, having 'starred' in one of the more notorious instances in November 2001.
Vince decided it was time for him to introduce a new member to his 'Kiss My Ass' club, and with Monday Night Raw taking place in Ross' native Oklahoma, it was a match made in hell. The segment was set-up when JR was caught laughing at McMahon's failed attempt at making 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin pucker up, but with Kurt Angle and The Undertaker backing the Chairman, Ross had no hope of escaping.
JR was against the idea, and told management that he didn't feel comfortable literally kissing his boss' ass in front of family and friend, but consented anyway.
The hometown curse once again caught JR in October 2011, when John Laurinaitis publicly ousted Ross in front of the Oklahoma City attendance. JR, whose wife was in the building, returned to programming the following week, but it was a dismal moment regardless.
