10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Ken Shamrock
8. He Beat The Rock To Become King Of The Ring
Ken Shamrock and The Rock spent the first half of 1998 feuding, and while The Rock was unable to defeat his rival, Shamrock was equally unable to capture The Rock's Intercontinental Title. Shamrock was briefly put on the shelf following WrestleMania XIV, but when he came back, he had his eyes on winning the King of the Ring tournament. Shamrock defeated several heels en route to the tournament's final round, where he faced - you guessed it - The Rock. This time, Shamrock would not be denied, and he made The Rock submit to claim overall victory. The booking of the King of the Ring tournament made sense - after evading Shamrock and keeping his Intercontinental Title, The Rock fell victim to his foe and failed to become King. Still, with The Rock having become not just one of the most popular stars in WWE history, but one of the hugest movie stars in the world, it almost seems silly in retrospect that Shamrock was given the win. Of course, The Rock's career turned out okay, but winning the King of the Ring tournament would have only made the honor more prestigious for future Kings.
