Earlier in this article, we stated that Kofi Kingston should have become a bigger deal years before catching fire in 2019. A quick look back to the enraptured response his 2009 Boom Drop through a table on Randy Orton in Madison Square Garden got still sends chills rushing up the spine. That was a coming of age moment.

One that was scrapped 'out of nowhere'.

As the story goes, it was Orton who damaged Kofi's chances of shooting up the ladder. Following a Triple Threat match involving the pair and John Cena, Randy was left incensed by an apparent botch from Kingston that spoiled the finish. According to The Wrestling Observer, Kofi was supposed to stay down for a punt kick, but he ended up eating an RKO when he got to his feet.

Orton could be seen shouting, "Stupid" over and over again on screen, and he was apparently irate about the mistake. Not-so-coincidentally, Kofi's push subsided after that and he dwindled down the card.
