10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Kofi Kingston

3. His Phoney Jamaican Accent

As out-his-depth WWE announcer Mike Adamle once chirpily said, "Jamaican me crazy, Kofi". That, in 2008 and early-2009, was the only character depth Kingston had to speak of. He was from the friendly Caribbean island, and he was here to represent his country by becoming the first ever Jamaican WWE superstar.

It was like Cool Runnings but 15 years too late.

For the first stretch of his WWE run, Kofi was tasked with putting on a phoney Jamaican accent and pretending he hadn't been raised in the United States. That was fine, because he did his best with the gimmick, but WWE decided to randomly stop the pretence in 2009.

Suddenly, Kofi was no longer Jamaican. Almost overnight, the announcers told of his Ghanian heritage and acknowledged that Kingston had grown up a Boston native. OK then, so much for character consistency.
