10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Rey Mysterio

Though the company didn't push the WWE vs. ECW theme as heavily throughout One Night Stand 2006's promotional campaign as they did for the first event, it was still there. The bulk of the evening's bouts saw Vince McMahon's wrestlers face off against ECW originals, but while World Heavyweight Champion had very much become a WWE guy, his match with Sabu was a little different.

Unlike many on the card, Mysterio's name wasn't exactly synonymous with Paul Heyman's promotion, but he spent time working for the company in the mid-90s. His matches with Psicosis are generally regarded as some of the best in his career, and his WCW signing was considered a major coup as Eric Bischoff started cherry-picking ECW's top talent. Thus, McMahon probably thought that Rey going over 'The Arabian Machine Of Destruction' wouldn't cause an almighty s***storm, but oh, how mistaken he was.

Granted, nobody was going to root against Sabu that night, but the fans let Rey have it when the cult favourite crashed through a table, leading to the stoppage. They were likely booing the booking decision, not Mysterio himself, but such rejection isn't something WWE want associated with a heroic character.
