10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Rikishi

1. He Did It For The Rock

When Stone Cold Steve Austin was run over during the 1999 Survivor Series broadcast it set up an intriguing ready-made angle for him when he returned from major neck surgery the following year. Many suspected that it would be Vince McMahon, Triple H, The Undertaker or some other established main eventer but they couldn't have been more far off. After weeks of Austin stunnering everyone on the roster, it was revealed that Rikishi was the one who was driving the vehicle that mowed Austin over. Well, that certainly came out of left field. Rikishi said that he 'did it for The Rock' and that taking out Austin allowed The Great One to shoot to superstardom. The angle led to matches against Austin at No Mercy and The Rock at Survivor Series (both of which Rikishi lost) and an appearance in the six man Hell in a Cell match at Armageddon. And then, Rikishi's main event career was over. The fans never really accepted him as a bad guy and he was quickly changed back to being a babyface. Plus, Triple H took the heat for himself by revealing that he was the man to set up the hit-and-run. Since WWE seem to be promoting Rikishi as the dancing, stinkfacing, fun-loving babyface it's doubtful that they'll want you to remember that Rikishi was the one to run over the biggest star in the company's history, much less the racist overtones of his promos following his heel turn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5bhLVGn2x0
