10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Samoa Joe

1. Just How Big A Deal Samoa Joe Is

In a landscape that now offers AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling as serious, widely accessible alternatives for wrestling fans, WWE must be worried that Samoa Joe could turn up in one of those promotions and make a serious (no pun intended) impact.

Speaking of which, a return to IMPACT Wrestling cannot be ruled out, of course. Then there's the genuinely mouth-watering prospect of seeing the two-time NXT Champ rocking up to turn Billy Corgan's National Wrestling Alliance on its head. Or maybe there's a stint back where it all really began for Joe, in Ring of Honor.

The point is, a fit and healthy Samoa Joe legitimately has his pick of the wrestling business.

Wherever he ends up, in whatever role that is - be that inside or outside the ring - Joe would be a huge asset to any wrestling company on the planet.

From a WWE viewpoint, they will be eagerly trying to play down just how good Samoa Joe is. After all, the less of a big-time player the former United States Champion is perceived as, the less chance he's got of making a splash in a rival company.

Being honest, the vast majority of wrestling fans have long since stopped paying attention to the narrative that WWE tries to spin on a whole variety of topics - and wherever he ends up, Samoa Joe's stock is already higher than it's ever been.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
