WWE’s partnership with Saudi Arabia has been controversial from the start, and the Universal Championship has been caught right in the middle of it.

Since 2018, WWE has hosted multiple major events in the Kingdom, with shows like Crown Jewel and Super ShowDown featuring high-profile matches—and plenty of questionable booking decisions. Among them? Three Universal Championship title changes that WWE probably hopes you don’t think too hard about.

The first came in 2018, when Brock Lesnar won the vacant title against Braun Strowman after Roman Reigns was forced to step away due to illness. Then, The Fiend Bray Wyatt briefly held the belt before dropping it to Goldberg in a match that…well, we’ll get to that one later.

Whether it’s the politics surrounding WWE’s deal with Saudi Arabia or the way older wrestlers are seemingly handpicked for these events, the fact that “Riyadh, Saudi Arabia” appears next to multiple title changes isn’t exactly a great look. And when this partnership finally ends, WWE will likely want fans to forget all about it
