10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Women's Wrestling
3. Bras, Panties, And More
Maybe it is because I'm a 30-year-old man, but looking back at the Attitude Era can be difficult to do. Watching those episodes of Raw reminds me of the prevailing attitudes of the time, and one of the most prevalent was the idea mentioned numerous times throughout this article: that women were there to be looked at and objectified.
The most heinous examples of this were the frequent bouts that saw women go up against each other with their clothes on the line. Whether it was the Evening Gown match, the Bra & Panties match or any other kind, these 'matches' were insulting at best, criminal at worst. Women were sent out to the ring in front of baying groups of young men, stripped down to being nothing more than meat.
It was the times yadda yadda, just doing their job yadda yadda, no complaints yadda yadda. Sure, you can argue from those angles, but the Bra & Panties match will forever be a stain on women's wrestling in WWE.
