One little known fact about Jinder Mahal is that he comes from a wrestling family. Not a huge one of course, but there is one notable professional wrestling name in his family tree: Gama Singh (no relation to the other famous wrestling Singh family).

Okay, younger (and indeed older) readers might not be familiar with Gama Singh, so let me introduce him to you. Born in Punjab (India), his family emigrated to Canada in the 1960s, and somehow Gama eventually found himself training under none other than Stu Hart.

The perception of wrestling was different then, and Gama was such a hated heel that he would get abused by fans in the street. He went on to work on and off for the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s. His nephew? Jinder Mahal.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
