10 Things You Didn’t Know About Cedric Alexander
Some lesser-known factoids about one of the new stars of the WWE Cruiserweight division.
There were a number of success stories to come from the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, including that of Cedric Alexander.
Having busted a gut to lose 22 pounds just in order to make the weight cut, Alexander first seized our attention with a short but sweet first-round match against Clement Petiot. It was the following round in which he really stole the show though, putting in an incredible performance in his Round of 16 clash with Kota Ibushi.
Ultimately, he came out on the losing side, but even though he failed to progress beyond the tournament’s second round, he’d still done enough to earn himself a following on both sides of the curtain. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he soon found himself stepping up to the main roster and he’s currently competing in Raw’s newly-established Cruiserweight division.
All in all, it’s made for quite a journey and (given the speed of his rise to stardom) there’s still quite a lot that we don’t know about Cedric Alexander’s story. This article looks to address that somewhat, as we delve into ten lesser-known trivia nuggets about one of the freshest faces in WWE.
10. No Background In Sports
Despite his obvious athleticism, it may come as something of a surprise to know that Alexander doesn’t possess any kind of sporting background.
During a recent appearance on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast, Alexander spoke of being a self-professed nerd. He says he was “never a football guy, never a basketball guy, or even tennis or baseball” and that most of his childhood was spent watching cartoons, amine and professional wrestling as opposed to conventional sports like the cool kids.
So athletically speaking, Alexander was starting from absolute scratch when first ventured into the pro wrestling business. Not that you’d ever have known it by looking at his moveset though, what with that backflip headscissors takedown he’s perfected, the awesome elevation he gets on his springboard clothesline and his beautiful topé con hilo.
I guess it’s not all that uncommon these days, but even so; given the ease with which he does things in the ring, I personally find it fairly surprising - and rather impressive - that Alexander doesn’t have some kind of sporting background.
