10 Things You Didn’t Know About Jim Neidhart

7. Barry Darsow Accidentally Created His Trademark Look

Long before he teamed with Bret Hart as The Hart Foundation in the WWF, Jim Neidhart worked alongside future Demolition member Barry "Smash" Darsow in Florida. Together, the pair won the regionalised NWA United States Tag Team Championship, and they'd become good pals.

It was Darsow who sold Jim on his trademark goatee look.

At the time, Neidhart was rocking a full beard. Darsow, knowing that a symmetrical look might help their team, suggested that his partner shear off the chops, shape his facial fluff and mimic his own style. Neidhart was hesitant at first, but he eventually relented and decided to give it a go. He'd never look back.

Jim told this story during the same 3 Count Wrestling interview mentioned previously. Darsow probably didn't know that Neidhart would continue using the goateed look after they split, or make it such an important part of his act. Barry only wanted them to look the same whilst teaming in the NWA.
