5. Bret Hart Received His World Title Push After Vince McMahon Chose His Name From A List
Come the fall of 1992, Hulk Hogan was out of the WWF picture, and McMahon was looking to anoint somebody as his new number one babyface. Reportedly, McMahon made a list of six candidates, one of whom would receive an immediate push as his lead dog. He was looking for somebody reliable, fairly young, and able to carry the company for the long haul. Veterans Tito Santana and Rick Martel were considered on the merit of their work ethic, but quickly ruled out. Randy Savage was passed over due to his age, and his identification with a bygone era. The Undertaker, it was deemed, didn't need the belt, and was just fine as an 'attraction' like Andre the Giant. Shawn Michaels hadn't solidified himself as a proven singles star at that point in time, and was removed from consideration. That left international star Hart, who was put over WWF Champion Ric Flair in short order.
