10 Things You Didn't Know About Doink The Clown

9. Initial Prototypes Didn't Have The Green Wig

Doink The Clown's green wig and greasepaint combination is infamous amongst wrestling fans - the look was immediately unique, nobody else could be confused for Doink, he was a clown after all. Matt Osborne didn't have the most physically-impressive body on the WWF roster either, so the clown outfit he wore was perfect in concealing that fact, and allowed the man to focus on his strengths. During prototype drawings for the gimmick, artists created many different looks for the carnival clown, even going so far in one as to depict Doink with a shaven head. Who knows if the gimmick would have been quite as successful without the famous hairpiece, but it is for certain that the green wig added another dimension of terror to the character. In fairness, the lack of a wig would have made for an interesting decision should the switch from villain to hero have ever been brought up - there's a somewhat more menacing tone about the skin-head style, looking more like one of The Joker's goons from Batman.
