10 Things You Didn't Know About Eva Marie

7. She Was Thrust Straight Into The Ring

People can throw shade Eva Marie's way for how she looked like a fish out of water upon first appearing in a WWE ring, but the truth of the matter is that Eva was facing an impossible task.

Having responded to a WWE casting call, the real-life Natalie found herself part of what was a relatively low-key edition of WWE's Diva Search.

That 2013 incarnation of the WWE Diva Search was largely kept away from main WWE programming, and was instead utilised by the company solely as a way to recruit potential candidates for its women's division rather than the Diva Search serving as part of WWE's weekly television.

So, why was it an impossible task when Eva Marie made her in-ring debut on the 7 October 2013 episode of Monday Night Raw? Why, that'd be because Eva had been given barely any wrestling training whatsoever by that point in time.

Before signing with WWE, Eva Marie had zero wrestling experience. Given that WWE still opted to sign her to a contract, you'd think the promotion would make sure that Eva's in-ring abilities were ready for international TV before putting her in the squared circle.

Unfortunately for Eva Marie, that wasn't the case - and she herself has since admitted how out of her depth and unready she was when stepping between the ropes in 2013.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
