10 Things You Didn't Know About Paul Bearer

9. He Was A Vietnam Veteran

WWE doesn't tend to want their audience to know the backgrounds of its performers unless their real life stories can somehow enhance the character they play on WWE television. That€™s why they made the decision to keep Bill Moody€™s past as a veteran of Vietnam to themselves. The WWF/E audience wouldn€™t have benefited from knowing that the white-faced, wailing manager of the Dead Man was an American hero. Moody had enlisted in the United States Air Force straight after graduating high school in 1972, and served overseas during the final years of the Vietnam War. When he returned, he would serve out the remainder of his four years on the inactive reserves, and turned to professional wrestling in his down time. Presumably, had Moody been tapped to manage Lex Luger, they€™d have had him turn up on television with fake medals pinned to his chest and bugles all over his entrance music.
