10 Things You Didn't Know About Raven

10. Multiple Music Video Appearances

Okay, ‘star’ might be something of an exaggeration, but how many people get starring roles in multiple music videos? Everyone’s favourite Grunge-based pro wrestler, for one. It might be hard for modern fans to believe, but there was a time when professional wrestling was legitimately cool, and the big stars found themselves crossing over into the mainstream on a regular basis. Actually, scrap that; pro wrestling was the mainstream.

Music and wrestling, in particular, went hand in hand, and Raven thus found himself in a couple of music videos. The first was for Stuck Mojo’s 1998 song ‘Rising’. The video centered on a pro wrestling event where the band is performing inside the ring, as members of Raven’s Flock dispatch fans into the audience. The Flock eventually turns its attention to the band, but DDP runs in for the save. Raven? He just calmly watches everything from the corner of the ring.

13 years later, Raven appeared in another pro-wrestling themed music video, this time for Smashing Pumpkins. The video for ‘Owata’ was altogether less glamorous, focusing on an independent show where Raven (and on-video girlfriend) Cheerleader Melissa are on the bill. The video ends with Raven cheating on his partner and Cheerleader Melissa in bed with Shelly Martinez. The song? Much, much less interesting.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
