10 Things You Didn't Know About Raven

6. Making Dave Grohl Question Kayfabe

As mentioned previously, professional wrestling was very much a part of the mainstream as the Attitude Era reached its late ‘90s peak. It wasn’t uncommon for wrestlers to appear on chat shows and the like, promoting upcoming shows or crossover events, rubbing shoulders with the megastars of the world.

MTV Spring Break was one such show, and Yoga God himself Diamond Dallas Page appeared on one such episode in 1998. As well as giving WCW a bit of mainstream exposure, Page was on the show to talk up Stuck Mojo’s new video, in which he starred. The Foo Fighters were on the same show, and the then-United States Champion found himself shooting the breeze with Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins.

All seemed to be going well until, out of nowhere, Raven appeared and clocked DDP over the head with his signature ‘STOP’ sign. Grohl and Hawkins recoiled in fear (ignore the sniggering, there was definitely fear there), and Raven followed it up by hitting Page with the Evenflow DDT. Imagine Andrade and Humberto Carrillo turning up on mainstream TV today…

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
