10 Things You Didn't Know About Raven

5. A Cross-Promotional Video Game Star

Raven was one of the few men to compete in WWF, WCW and ECW while all three were in their pomp. He was one of the first big stars of ECW before becoming a dependable gatekeeper of the midcard in WCW, eventually moving across to the WWF when WCW was all but dead. His greatest successes came in ECW, but championships were won in all three promotions. Not many men can say that.

The ‘not many’ becomes ‘nobody’ when talking about video games. The Attitude Era coincided with the advent of mainstream video games, and each of the three promotions was eager to get involved. These games usually had typically wacky names and ranged from eminently playable to forgettable at best. Raven? He’s the only guy to feature in a video game for all three promotions.

Raven also happened to feature on the cover of WCW/nWo Revenge, alongside Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Goldberg. The idea was that the four were the leaders of WCW’s four main factions (nWo Black & White, Wolfpac, The Flock and WCW itself), although Raven’s stable was never presented as a legitimate threat and Goldberg certainly wasn’t a team player. Still, a video game cover is a video game cover.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
