10 Things You Didn't Know About Tatanka
5. He Turned Down WCW In 1996
WCW and Eric Bischoff were at war with Vince McMahon and the WWF in 1996. A large part of Bischoff's strategy for winning that war involved luring away former and current WWF stars with the offer of big-money guaranteed contracts.
Hence why WWF mainstays like Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger Kevin Nash and Scott Hall showed up in the Turner-owned company in the mid-90s. It wasn't just main event talent Bisch was interested in, either, and soon everyone from Hacksaw Jim Duggan to Virgil made the move.
One wrestler who could not be bought, however, was Tatanka. Indeed, the War Buffalo would reject Bischoff's advances and turn down a lucrative deal in 1996 (after he had left the WWF). Tatanka left Vince's company due to 'family and spiritual issues' but continued to wrestle on the independent scene.
It's a damn shame, really. I'm sure Tatanka would have looked great in an nWo t-shirt...
