Tatanka was a popular babyface act in the mid-90s, popular enough so that you'd think he'd be rewarded with a championship run somewhere down the line. The undefeated streak made him out to be a big deal and all, but winning a piece of WWF gold is an entirely different thing.

Somewhat surprisingly, Tatanka never had so much as a Tag Team Title run during his time with the company. He was never going to be challenging the Diesel's and the Bret Hart's for the WWF Title, but he was at least good enough for a token Intercontinental Title run.

According to the man himself, he was scheduled to win the IC Title at the truly shoddy WrestleMania IX. He squared off with IC champ Shawn Michaels in the show's opener and many had him pegged to take home the gold since he was in the midst of his undefeated streak.

Obviously that didn't happen, with HBK taking a countout loss after eighteen minutes of action. Still, Tatanka has claimed in shoot interviews that he was led to believe the title was his until plans changed somewhere.

There has never been official confirmation of that belief, mind.
