10 Things You Didn't Know About Tommy Dreamer

8. He Was Suicidal Following The Demise Of ECW...

According to Dreamer, the worst time in his life was when ECW came to an end. After bleeding, hurting and (literally) breaking his back for the company, Dreamer was devastated when Paul Heyman defected to the WWF, effectively ending ECW€™s hardcore revolution. In addition to working on behalf of the company to gain funding and exposure, Dreamer had ploughed a hefty portion of his own money into the running of ECW, just to keep it afloat. For example, ECW€™s ring truck was apparently registered in his name and his parents had invested huge sums of their money into the company at his request. Dreamer (and his parents) lost hundreds of thousands of Dollars when ECW went under. The demise of ECW not only broke Tommy Dreamer€™s heart, it also emptied his life savings and destroyed his credit rating as well. So, not only had he been betrayed (and, to a large extent, swindled) by a close friend and business partner of many years, Tommy was also broke and had lost most, if not all, of his ageing parents€™ money as well. When the company finally closed its doors, Dreamer was crushed. Not only did he believe the promotion could have been saved, but he also had investors lined up to do just that. He literally stayed in the company longer than the owner, a true believer in the principles and ragged, rebellious spirit of ECW. At this time, Dreamer was on the verge of suicide, a man at the precipice between life and death, standing at the crossroads with no soul to sell. He literally had nothing else left to give. He has stated that he considered killing Heyman and/or himself, and only avoided doing so because of his parents. Amazingly (and as a testament to Dreamer€™s forgiving nature), Tommy and Paul are now friends once again.

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
