After retiring as Women's Champion in 2006, Trish Stratus made only two appearances in WWE over the next two years. She appeared in a backstage segment in 2007 (with Cade and Murdoch of all people) and returned a year later to team with John Cena to defeat Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix.

Trish was offered a spot in the Diva's Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXV for the title of 'Miss WrestleMania'. It isn't out of the question to assume that Stratus would have been booked as the winner of this, an accolade that would eventually go to Santina Marella. Trish turned the spot down though, on account of how throwaway the whole thing was.

Trish recalls it by stating that there wasn't any question on her appearance would be built up, how it could come about. No, she was merely asked 'do you want to be in this battle royal?'. Needless to say, she politely declined.
