9. He And Edge Almost Became The New Midnight Express
The New Midnight Express are not remembered too fondly by old-school wresting fans. The original Midnight Express, Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane, were one of the greatest tag teams of all-time. 'Bodacious' Bart Gunn and 'Bombastic' Bob Holly, on the other hand, were a complete joke. The idea sucked, and everyone involved knew it. Most suspected that it was a rib by Vince McMahon on Jim Cornette. The rib was very nearly on Val Venis and Edge, however, as they were the two wrestlers originally scheduled to make up the team. Adam 'Edge' Copeland confirmed this during his January 2014 appearance on the Talk is Jericho podcast. Vince Russo was the one who told Edge about the idea. According to Edge he 'just went, 'Oh, no. Anything new, whatever it is, it's not going to work.' That (idea) was doomed for failure right away'. He was right. Venis was similarly unimpressed with the idea but both would-be superstars felt they couldn't turn the gig down. Thankfully, they were spared the embarrassment and Holly and Gunn were given the 'opportunity'. Edge further revealed that his and Venis' monikers would have been 'Adorable Adam' and 'Sensual Sean'.
