10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE Champion Dean Ambrose

9. He's The Longest Reigning U.S. Champion In Modern WWE History

WWE will inundate us with anything they can crow about to the point of suffocation. When Goldust underwent his startling career renaissance in 2013, JBL would point out how he'd 'never looked better' at least twice during every match he was booked in. Randy Orton is what a WWE superstar would look like if you built one from the ground up. Chris Jericho was the first undisputed WWE champion in history. You get the idea.

It's strange, then, that Ambrose's 351 day United States title reign, a modern-day record breaker, is barely mentioned on WWE programming. The only reason we can think of is that they themselves, like the majority of fans, have forgotten all about it. Relegated to pre-show defences against Rob Van Dam, Ambrose otherwise would barely defend the title at all. When The Shield all won gold on the same night (Extreme Rules 2013, which also saw Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins capture tag gold at the expense of Team Hell No), it was actually a demotion. The state of essentially every belt, except Cena's WWE title, was of utter devaluation.

Until Cena revived its fortunes in 2015, it's entirely likely that they forgot about the U.S. title altogether.
