10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 1990

3. More Gobbledy Gooker Than WWE Might Have You Believe

Vince McMahon the Undertaker

The Gobbledy Gooker almost instantly entered pro wrestling infamy when he hatched out of a massive eyg at the 1990 Survivor Series. In a collector's item for the time, the fans turned on the gimmick before the presentation had concluded.

The big...chicken...guy was only brought in to be a mascot of sorts, but the whole thing was considered enough of a dismal failure that it barely made it of the pay-per-view alive, let alone the end of the year. But a clear Vince McMahon-led concept wasn't going to go down with a fight, even if it's generally remembered as a one-night catastrophe.

The company trotted out lower card babyfaces such as Tugboat and The Bushwhackers to cut promos alongside the gobbling weirdo, and as revealed on the Funniest Moments Coliseum Video release, Gooker was sent out in front of several live crowds just to see if the Survivor Series audience response was an isolated incident. Even with his banger of a theme and the strange sight of a twirling Howard Finkel, fans weren't biting and the bit was hastily mercy-killed.
