10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 1992

3. Bret Hart€™s €œFlu€ Was A Work

You may remember days before the Royal Rumble that Bret Hart dropped the Intercontinental Title to the man he was supposed to face at the Rumble for the belt, The Mountie, at a house show in Springfield, MA. The story that was told on WWF television was that Bret wrestled the match with the flu and a 100-degree fever. That story apparently was a work. What was really going on was that Bret was going through a contract dispute with the WWF, so they were trying to get the belt off of him as quickly as possible. The contract dispute was quickly resolved, and the plans were put in motion to have Bret face Roddy Piper, who took Bret€™s place at the Rumble and beat the Mountie, for the belt at Wrestlemania 8.
