10. Huge Heat On CM Punk Following Cena Dress Code Remark
It seemed there was always some sort of controversy surrounding CM Punk during his WWE career. Never one to shy away from voicing his opinion, Punk was labelled as having a 'bad attitude' by some of his peers and WWE management. In October 2009, his penchant for speaking up cost him big time. Punk was the World Heavyweight Champion and arguably the company's number one heel, following his critically successful summer series with Jeff Hardy. However, when Punk decided to dress as something less than a World Champion during the autumn tour of Europe, there were some grumblings in the dressing room. Undertaker, as the locker room leader, pulled Punk aside and told him that he should consider buying a suit jacket, some slacks and nice shoes in order to look the part. Punk allegedly said something to the effect of 'but what about John Cena?', question why Cena was able to wear jean shorts and t-shirts at all hours of the day. When this conversation got back to Vince McMahon, he interpreted it as Punk believing he was as big a star as Cena (which he wasn't, to be fair), and that he needed to be taken down a peg or two. So Punk was booked to lose the title to 'Taker in the opener of the Hell in a Cell PPV on October 4th. It took 'Taker ten minutes to temporarily put an end to the Punk experiment. By the time the December TLC PPV rolled around, Punk was jobbing to R-Truth in the dark match.
