7. Triple H And The Undertaker Fined Over 'Mania Chairshot
You might think that two men like Triple H and The Undertaker are untouchable. The Game is married to the bosses daughter and has a high-ranking position in the office. The Undertaker is, arguably, the most respected person in the history of the company. Yet, when it comes to WWE policy, both men have to obey the law. During their classic WrestleMania XXVII battle, Triple H blasted The Dead Man with a full-on chairshot to the head. Although 'Taker's hand partially cushioned the blow, it was still a shocking thing to see, in a post-Benoit wrestling landscape. This act did not go unnoticed by WWE officials, including Vince McMahon, who fined the wrestlers for it. In a statement released on WWE's corporate website on April 6th, the company said:
Pursuant to WWE's Concussion policy, the stunt of using a folded metal chair shot to the head is prohibited. Triple H and The Undertaker have both been fined for violating this policy at WrestleMania XXVII. WWE penalizes through fine and/or suspension for violation of this policy, which is unchanged and still in effect.
Obviously, as a featured match on the show, The Phenom and the Cerebral Assassin would receive high six figure or low six figure payoffs for their efforts, so it's not like the fine would actually hurt them much (the amount was undisclosed but can't have been more than a few grand). This was a PR move on WWE's part, but was nice to see them enforcing their policy and trying to safeguard talent, regardless.
