10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE Money In The Bank

6. Jeff Hardy Was Also Supposed To Win A Money In The Bank Match

CM Punk won the Money In The Bank briefcase at WrestleMania XXIV, and when he cashed in, he wasn't propelled to the main event.

He wasn't the guy; by 2008, the World Heavyweight title effectively functioned as the Intercontinental title of yore. It was a paradox; being World Heavyweight champion meant that a wrestler was a World Heavyweight champion and under consideration to be a main event-level star at the same time. If that period felt weird, like WWE was pushing Punk and sidelining him at the same time, that's because they didn't plan on pushing him. He was not scheduled to win the briefcase in 2018, at least according to Matt Hardy.

Jeff Hardy was meant to win, but Matt, talking on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast last year, revealed that a Wellness Policy violation scuppered a plan tasked to former creative writer Freddie Prinze, Jr. to launch Hardy's big singles push.

It was a lazy idea on the surface, but then, Jeff finally winning a big Ladder match was a potentially affecting story. His near-misses in the genre were legendary.

It never ended up happening; instead, jaded Punk fans had to watch on as he lost the title without being given the courtesy of defending it.
