10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE Money In The Bank
3. THIS Incredible Stat
This stat is incredible, insofar as the harsh light it shines on WWE's creative process.
If it feels like the winner of the women's Money In The Bank match always cashes in immediately, that's because they effectively do. Only Carmella has held the women's Money In The Bank briefcase for longer than 24 hours. She held it for 287 days before finally cashing in on Charlotte Flair on the April 10, 2018 edition of SmackDown. Following that, not a single other performer held it for longer than one day.
2018 winner Alexa Bliss cashed in on Raw Women's champion Nia Jax later in the pay-per-view - as did Bayley in 2019 when she cashed in on Charlotte Flair. The circumstances were slightly different (and genuinely heartwarming) in 2020. 24 hours removed from an excruciatingly unfunny night of "cinema", Asuka was gifted the Raw Women's title by Becky Lynch, who was pregnant and could not defend it. Asuka found out the same time as we all did. Her reaction was wonderful. Technically, while she didn't cash in, she only held the briefcase for 24 hours.
As did Nikki ASH in 2021, since she cashed in on Charlotte Flair 24 hours after her win on Raw. In 2022, Liv Morgan cashed in on Ronda Rousey at the Money In The Bank PLE itself.
Every winner bar one has held the briefcase for a combined working week.
Is WWE that desperate for a cheap pop?
Gauging by how quiet the TV crowds are, yes.
Yes they are.
