10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE SummerSlam

2. An Interesting WWE Title Stat

It's generally agreed that the WWE Title is the top prize in pro wrestling, and has been for generations. So, it's a bit of a shocker to learn that the belt has only headlined SummerSlam in 4 of the last 15 events in the series. Basically, since 2008, the WWE Title has main-evented less than a handful of times.

Wow.

CM Punk vs. John Cena in 2011, Daniel Bryan vs. Cena in 2013, Cena vs. Brock Lesnar in 2014 and Brock vs. Roman Reigns in 2022 are the only occasions when WWE's top strap has gone on last at SummerSlam in 15 long years. That's an incredible stat, but it's true.

The newer Universal Title (which has since been amalgamated with the WWE Title into the Undisputed belt, at least for now) has dominated SummerSlam's headliner berth in recent years. This is surprising due to SummerSlam's on/off status as the number two pay-per-view behind WrestleMania/alongside Royal Rumble.
