Vince McMahon wasn't exactly accommodating to the wider pro wrestling universe during his pomp. His outlook was fairly simple: WWF/WWE was king, and it was better to pretend that no other promotion existed. The NWA? Pah! WCW?! Double pah! ECW? Well, we'll give you funds on the down low, but still...pah!

That's why it's so incredible that McMahon agreed to green light a Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Title match on one of his own pay-per-views. Jim Cornette somehow wangled a deal that saw The Heavenly Bodies defeat The Rock N' Roll Express to win those belts at Survivor Series 1993.

It was totally unprecedented.

That marked the first and only time an existing championship from a functioning promotion outside the WWF/WWE was defended on one of those shows. WCW and ECW belts have been promoted, of course, but they were WWE property by the time that happened. What a strange one-off, eh?
