10 Things You Learn Binge Watching Every WWE Raw From 1996

6. Faarooq Didn't Need A Manager

Ron Simmons might just win the prize for 'Worst Wrestling Outfit Of 1996'.

His foam gladiatorial helmet and mis-matching singlet didn't exactly scream "WWF Superstar" on paper. In actuality, it made the debuting Faarooq look like a total fool when he marched out on the 22 July episode of Raw and became the fed's latest midcard heel.

Just look at Sunny's face in the screenshot above - it says everything. Even she must've known that this gimmick wasn't a good fit for her character; before linking up with NERF salesman Faarooq, Sunny had been either seducing or tricking her clients into doing her bidding. She wasn't going to do that with Ron, so it wasn't a great fit.

Also, Simmons could promo his ass off. His distinctive, barking voice was commanding, and he didn't need anyone to rock the mic for him. In retrospect, the first few months of his WWF career were an absolute shambles.
