Situated at ringside to provide commentary on the show alongside Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan, Vince McMahon was taking a gamble by booking the main event he did for Survivor Series 1992. It may have made sense to have The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair and Razor Ramon headline, but Warrior was replaced by Mr. Perfect.

Maybe that was never in the booking sheets to begin with, perhaps McMahon had full faith in Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels as the correct choice. Certainly, Hart vs. Michaels represented something different at the top of the card. This was wildly contrasting to something like Sid Justice vs. Hulk Hogan from WrestleMania, these young lions were going to wrestle for over 25 minutes.

As Hart and Michaels athletically moved from one sequence to the next, even McMahon himself seemed excited by what he was seeing. Bursting with enthusiasm, there was even a slight hint of surprise in Vince's tone throughout the main event.

It could be argued that Survivor Series was the moment the boss decided to put his all into Bret as champion, although that whim would change in 1993.
