Up until that point, the 1992 iteration of the match was the best Royal Rumble to date. There are still those who believe the '92 version remains the greatest, and that largely has to do with 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair. His performance in the 30-man bout is perhaps unrivalled.

Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin, amongst others, have produced magic in the Rumble. There's just something about Flair's work in 1992 that stands out though, he wrestled like a machine on the evening of January 19. Entering third behind The British Bulldog and Ted DiBiase, Flair was in there for over a full hour.

On his way to victory, Ric eliminated no less than five men. The British Bulldog, Texas Tornado, Big Boss Man, Randy Savage (helped by Sid Justice) and Sid himself (aided by Hulk Hogan) were all hurled over by the winner.

Afterwards, Flair's 'tear in my eye' promo hit the mark brilliantly. Putting over his WWF Heavyweight Title win, Ric was on fire and looked thrilled to be part of the WWF juggernaut. His Rumble outing was superb from start to finish.
