As you’re aware, Jimmy Snuka died a couple of weeks ago. Now, as you’re also aware, Jimmy Snuka probably murdered his girlfriend. The evidence is pretty astonishing and doesn't need to be recapped here. If you really are in the dark about what happened, then read the Morning Call article in 2013 that reopened the case.

Snuka was one of WWE’s biggest stars in his prime, and his death put the McMahons in a bit of a bind. WWE are famous for their elaborate send offs, but fawning over Snuka would be really controversial and cruel. After all, the wounds are still very fresh for the family of the deceased Nancy Argentino. Remember, it was just last year that they were refused a second chance of attaining justice for their deceased daughter/sister because Snuka was too ill to stand trial.

Anything more than a brief acknowledgement of Snuka’s legacy would be horrendously misguided, and inappropriate, in that context. However, that didn’t stop them. WWE repeatedly ran a fawning tribute reel that reeked of desperation, cynicism, and revisionism.

What’s really infuriating, though, is that WWE weren’t just trying to rewrite the story of Snuka, the violent abuser. They were also deliberately trying to make people forget that it was Vince McMahon who helped Snuka obstruct and obscure the investigation in the immediate aftermath so that the case could not be brought to trial. They were trying to wash blood and bruises off their hands, through a damn wrestling show, with the assistance of good editing, and some sad tweets.

No matter how much we know, and no matter how exposed they are, it appears WWE will never stop trying to rewrite their incredibly dodgy past. That’s enough to make anyone want to turn away for another nine months.
