10 Things You Might Have Missed At WrestleMania 31
3. Finishing Moves Mean Nothing
If WrestleMania XXXI taught wrestling fans anything, it was that finishing maneuvers no longer matter. Sure, they draw big reactions but Superstars have kicked out of them so often as of late that their effectiveness is tantamount to a clothesline of powerslam. Don't believe me? Go fire up WWE Network and re-watch Sunday's show. No, seriously. I'll wait. While you were emotionally invested in the goings on inside the squared circle at the Showcase of the Immortals, it was easy to miss the fact that every single one of the matches after the night's opening ladder match featured AT LEAST one kickout of a finisher. From Seth Rollins and Randy Orton both shooting their shoulders off the mat following trademark maneuvers, to the Divas getting in on the mix as Paige kicked out of the Rack Attack, all the way to Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns each surviving multiple finishes to continue on, never before had a single night been so responsible for the devaluing of the signature move. It is one thing to take the audience on an emotional roller coaster, to portray a given match as the most important of the year and thus, the one time that the men and women of WWE would be able to find it within themselves to kick out of the most devastating maneuvers. It is another to do it in every match, to the point that it becomes almost comical. That is the fine line WWE and its Superstars walked Sunday night. Even if the exchange of finishers in the Lesnar vs. Reigns match was pretty damn cool.
