10 Times A Major WWE Championship Changed Hands On "The Road To WrestleMania"

9. Stephanie McMahon Def. Jacqueline For The WWF Women's Championship (SmackDown, March 2000)

WrestleMania 2000 was sold under the tagline "A McMahon In Every Corner!", because in 2000, the McMahons saw themselves as the company's biggest draws.

In the show's Four Corners main event, Shane was with The Big Show, Vince had The Rock, Linda had Mick Foley, and WWF Champion, Triple H, was accompanied by his kayfabe and soon-to-be-actual wife, Stephanie.

Steph had become a main event player since forming The McMahon-Helmsley faction with her hubby in 1999. Now Triple H was world champion, Stephanie was cemented as one of the company's top heels.

Because audiences didn't hate her enough already, Steph decided that she wanted to become a champion too. On the SmackDown before WrestleMania 2000, she challenged reigning WWF Women's Champion Jacqueline for the gold.

In only her second ever match on TV, Stephanie (not a wrestler) beat Jacqueline (a wrestler) to become the top woman in the company. And before you ask, yes, there was a buttload of interference from D-Generation X.

McMahon was the champion at WrestleMania, but she didn't defend the belt. She would hold the title for 146 days before losing it to Lita.

Needless to say, she barely defended the belt during this time.
