Was the spring of 2013 the last time Monday Night RAW even approached greatness?

Much if not all of that had to with the real rise of Daniel Bryan. Bryan had worked a better streak of matches, measured purely by in-ring, as Ring Of Honor World Champion. But this was different; this was a series of matches crackling with such electricity that he rode the lightning all the way to the SummerSlam main event at a time the main event was very difficult to arrive it.

These were scintillating pro wrestling matches with crossover appeal, and this period was worked like his major label breakthrough. He fused technical artistry with broad, house afire accessibility to get everybody in major arenas living and dying with him. He worked stunners with the Shield, Seth Rollins one-on-one, and in particular Cesaro. That match saw Bryan in incandescent form as the uncrowned company Ace. Cesaro, while obviously mercurial in talent, wasn't hugely over - but Bryan was so goddamn great that it was as if he were overcoming a Final Boss.

A mini-series with Randy Orton put him over the top - this was main event-level sh*t well before he was tested - and an all-timer with John Cena at SummerSlam capped it all off. Bryan beat the sports entertainment out of Cena with his incandescent pro wrestling.
