10 Times A Wrestler Went On An Insane Streak Of Matches

You'll see technically better G1 runs.

You'll see a string of matches more lauded critically. But you won't see a series of a matches as different, entertaining, and goddamn life-affirming as Jon Moxley's first appearances for New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2019.

It started with a character showcase and a statement of intent at the Best of the Super Juniors Final, wherein he captured Juice Robinson's IWGP US Title in a wicked, witty and gruesome brawl. After annihilating young Shota Umino, and taking him under his wing, he embarked on a G1 run that made a definitive mockery of the WWE system. This was Mox saying "F*ck, I want to go be a star," then going to Japan and becoming a star. It wasn't that simple, but it sure as sh*t looked like it.

Mox entered as an expert strategist. That was the awesome story behind his G1.

He brutalised Taichi; he reduced Jeff Cobb's core strength by taking out his shoulder; he took Shingo Takagi's knee out to keep him from exploding across the ring; he, in a really funny match, had to tell himself to calm down in the face of Tetsuya Naito's bullsh*t; and, in the best match, he needed no such strategy against Tomohiro Ishii.

He just beat the ever-living sh*t out of him.

This was Mox, in a wonderful six-week period, becoming one of the savviest, hardest and funniest wrestlers in the game.
