5. Bret Hart's 1993

Some of us spend a summer in love, or playing Call Of Duty with the blinds down. Bret Hart spent his summer of 1993 putting the f*cking boot into the idea that Hulk Hogan was a more worthy WWF Champion.

Hart played the role of underdog to Yokozuna perfectly at WrestleMania IX in a great pinball performance lost to the overwhelming narrative of the show's controversy and general sh*tty quality. He arrested it in stunning fashion at the King Of The Ring.

There, in a superb, interconnected trilogy of matches, he showed his eclectic, long-form storytelling genius to earn the literal title. In June, he was a technical tour de force, fusing strategy, skill, struggle and depth to create a generation of spellbound fans who will always look on him as a hero. He worked every match on the 13th to the strength of his opponents, and yet it was his night. He was a true Ace figure when the company needed every resource at its disposal to overcome.

In August, he displayed yet more range by working a pulsating, convincing, super-heated brawl with Jerry Lawler at SummerSlam.

Sorry: The SummerSlam. That's not the official title of the show, but it's what Bret calls it and should therefore become canon.
