10 Times AEW Saved Something That STUNK

5. The Dark Order

Being the Elite

Remember when AEW tried to portray the Dark Order as vicious monsters?

Fans never bought the Dark Order as a serious threat, and rejected all of AEW's attempts to present them as such. The nadir came on the final Dynamite of 2019, when the Dark Order closed the show by delivering a beatdown to some of the biggest names in the company. As Evil Uno admitted on Talk is Jericho, the fan response to the segment was so negative he genuinely believed that the Dark Order were finished.

Fortunately, salvation was at hand.

The late, great Brodie Lee was revealed as the Dark Order's true leader and transformed the group's image. No longer a group of bad guy wannabes, the stable was revealed to be a cult of misfits and outcasts looking for a place to fit in. Brodie excelled in his role as the exasperated authority figure, playing the role of straight man to perfection to allow the rest of the group to show their comedic chops. This humanization of the group eventually led to them becoming one of the most over acts in all of AEW.

Brodie Lee left the Dark Order, AEW and wrestling as a whole in a much better place before his untimely passing, and for that we are grateful.
