10 Times AEW Took It Too Far

3. Tony Khan: Message Board Poster

Tony Khan is a genuinely endearing feller, and he's a billionaire. That takes some doing.

In addition to financing and booking the best U.S. territory of the century, and being a so-bad-it's-funny promo wise enough to contain his warbling lunacy to post-show thank yous, Khan has a "one of us" vibe to him because he is. Well, he's a billionaire, but as far as billionaires go, he's an extremely online message board poster who is so good at booking for the aspirational hipster because he is one. He also has no filter.

This can yield brilliance. He thought nothing of burying WWE's propaganda of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia nor suggesting that the worst people on Wrestling Twitter are bots who may have been programmed by the Fed.

He also took it much too far on, of all days, New Year's Eve. He forgot the auld acquaintance with Big Swole by calling her dog sh*t in the ring. That's paraphrasing, but he was equally cruel, and it didn't matter at all that Swole wasn't particularly good between the ropes or showing signs of improvement. It was callous, removed entirely from a far more pertinent issue, and it was hypocritical; Khan had praised Swole's work previously, which badly affected his credibility.

His catchphrase is "X has been great for us," but in the wake of his meltdown, he can appear far more like a carny than an agent of change.
