10 Times Brilliant Wrestlers Endured Miserable Title Reigns

If the intent throughout Seth Rollins' truncated WWE Title run was to gradually depict him as The Man he emptily referred to himself as, it would have required something herculean to put him over as such in the build towards WrestleMania 32.

That is because he was portrayed, prior to his ACL, MCL and medial meniscus injuries, as the spoilt adopted child of stern parents Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. This was a dismal stab at characterisation. This was WWE's dumb approach to "telling stories" eating itself. Basically, the McMahon-Levesques chose Rollins as The Man to lead WWE into a new era. They favoured Rollins because as heels, they gravitated towards heels, even though they disapproved of his heel antics (!). Months of brain-melting TV followed, hardly helped by the constant threat of a Corporate Kane match that was always going to be terrible, and absolutely was when it did eventually happen.

His matches wavered so drastically in quality that even his best work - a proper popcorn summer blockbuster opposite John Cena - could only elicit a temporary sugar rush.

Elsewhere, his work with Randy Orton was forgettable WWE non-finish b*llocks, his match with Sting deeply regrettable, and his match with Brock Lesnar only slightly less notoriously phoned-in than the Beast's performance at WrestleMania 32.
