10 Times Brock Lesnar Was Just Awesome
5. The Birth Of Suplex City
2014 was a career-defining year for Brock Lesnar.
After his initial return in 2012, the WWE didn't do nearly enough to protect Lesnar's unparalleled aura. For Christ's sake, he lost his first pay-per-view match back against John Cena. A decent rivalry with Punk aside, Lesnar even lost at WrestleMania 29 to Triple H.
The work to rebuild him began at WrestleMania XXX when he broke The Undertaker's streak. That in itself is impressive but many have said Brock didn't need it and it's no secret the match was below par due to The Undertaker's concussion.
Ending the streak should have been the apex of Lesnar's career, but it was actually SummerSlam 2014 where he fully levelled up into the end boss he became. It was on that night that Lesnar faced John Cena for the WWE Championship and Suplex City was born.
The Undertaker's sole purpose was to be protected one night a year. John Cena had been given an unmatched level of protection for over a decade, which was brutally and shockingly ripped away by Lesnar. Delivering sixteen suplexes throughout the match, Lesnar squashed the most dominant star in WWE, ate his lunch and embarked on his own tyrannical rule of dominance.
Never had Cena seemed so mortal and never had Lesnar, at least since his 2012 return, seemed so dangerous.
