It remains one of the most iconic images in modern wrestling history. Cactus Jack and Terry Funk were doing what they did better than most, namely beating seven shades of sh*t out of each other, before Public Enemy interfered and forced the match to be thrown out. Jack and Funk joined forces to fight off the tag team. What happened next is just about as legendary as it gets.

Funk and Cactus gestured to the fans for some help, a weapon or two in the form of the chairs that the audience were sat on. The hardcore icons may have expected one or two chairs, but instead they were answered with an unholy barrage of the things, a plague of chairs raining down on the ring, creating a scene never before seen in American professional wrestling.

Public Enemy were literally buried by chairs. The sight of Terry Funk giving up and taking a bump to get out the ring still tickles to this day. It is somewhat forgotten that this iconic moment happened when the ‘E’ still stood for ‘Eastern’, although the landscape had well and truly changed.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
