10 Times Egos Ruined Great Wrestling Partnerships

3. The Rockers

The Rockers were one of the best teams in professional wrestling as 1991 approached. A lack of tag team championship reigns, and aspirations for singles success, though, ended Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty's partnership and ignited one of the greatest singles runs the sport has ever seen. No longer content to enjoy complacency as part of a popular tandem, Michaels allowed his ego to get the best of him. He betrayed Jannetty with a vicious sidekick then, in one of the most memorable moments of the 1990s, tossed his longtime friend through the Barbershop set window, bloodying him in the process. The Rockers were dead and the Heartbreak Kid was born. Michaels' ego would grow and grow over the next year until Jannetty returned from injury, hellbent on avenging the attack. While he did win the intercontinental title, it was Michaels who dominated the program, proving that in this one instance, his ego led him down the right path.
