10 Times Great Wrestlers Got Lazy In Big Matches

8. Triple H Vs. Scott Steiner (Royal Rumble 2003)

A historically bad feud, Triple H vs. Scott Steiner was supposed to establish the former WCW Champion as a big deal in WWE, but wound up destroying any hope the company had of getting Steiner over as a main event player.

Scott signed with Vince McMahon in late 2002, making him one of the last big WCW names to cross over following the Invasion. WWE's first botch was having him play babyface (a role he's never been particularly comfortable in), but the feud's tedium seemed to escalate every week, with pose-downs and arm-wrestling contests forming its basis.

They did nothing to make the fans care, and the resulting matches were atrocious. It'd be just as easy to slot their No Way Out 2003 clash in here, but as the first time the duo had locked horns on a major PPV, Triple H vs. Scott Steiner at that year's Royal Rumble stands out more. Steiner was lacklustre himself, and did little other than spam suplexes throughout the contest, but 'The Game' was even worse, performing only the most rudimentary holds in his arsenal. Unsurprisingly, this is remembered as one of this century's worst WWE Title matches.
