10 Times Major WWE Stars Missed WrestleMania

6. Triple H - WrestleMania 23

Triple H famously suffered a tear to his left quadriceps during a tag match on Raw in May 2001. Despite the injury, he finished the bout, but he was forced to undergo surgery and miss the WCW Invasion storyline. After returning in January 2002, Triple H quickly reclaimed his spot atop WWE, defeating Chris Jericho for the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania X8. That wouldn't be the end of "The Game's" quad troubles, though. At New Year's Revolution, D-Generation X took on Rated RKO (Randy Orton and Edge) for the World Tag Team Championship. During the bout, Triple H delivered a spinebuster to Orton and in the process, tore his right quad. Again, HHH finished the bout (and participated in a post-match angle) but, again, he was forced to miss several months of action after undergoing surgery. Hunter had to sit on the sidelines for WrestleMania 23. If rumors are to be believed, his planned role was important; he was reportedly scheduled to take on WWE Champion John Cena in a rematch of their bout the previous year. Instead, Hunter's DX buddy Shawn Michaels went on to challenge Cena, resulting in a great match and a second consecutive main event victory for the champ.
